Press Release -April 22, 2005
The
Honourable Peter Cory (right), former Justice of the Supreme
Court of Canada and the current chancellor of York University
was presented with a striking portrait commissioned by The
Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and painted by Canadian
artist Martina Shapiro.
The CCCL commissioned Martina Shapiro to create an oil painting
for presentation to the Honourable Peter Cory to acknowledge
both his participation in the 2004 Joint CCCL / ACCL conference
in Coral Gables, Florida and his recent appointment as Chancellor
of York University. The work was to have a theme reflecting
the intersection between law and construction. The painting,
which will grace the walls of Osgoode Hall Law School, was
formally presented to Peter Cory on April 20, 2005 at the
office of Osgoode's Dean, Patrick Monaghan.
On hand to present the painting to the Honourable Peter Cory
were Stanley Naftolin, the Canadian College of Construction
Lawyer's current President, along with Harvey J. Kirsh, past
president of the College and one of its original founding
fellows. Also on hand (as seen in the photos) were Osgoode
Hall Law School's Dean Patrick Monaghan and Paul Marcus, the
President of the York University Foundation.
